Rip Taylor
Biography
Rip Taylor was an American comedian and actor whose flamboyant style, complete with a wild mustache, a toupee and showers of confetti, made him a favorite of talk shows and nightclubs. Born in Washington, D.C., he first performed stand-up while serving with the U.S. Army, entertaining troops in Tokyo and Korea. Nightclubs followed, where he mimed to records and built a routine as a crying comedian; a 1961 debut on The Ed Sullivan Show led to roughly twenty return visits. He was a regular guest on The Jackie Gleason Show and on game shows, and supplied voices for cartoons including Scooby-Doo Goes Hollywood (1979), DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp (1990) and Tom and Jerry: The Movie (1992). His screen appearances included Chatterbox (1977), Things Are Tough All Over (1982), Indecent Proposal (1993) and Wayne's World 2 (1993). In 1981 he took over Mickey Rooney's role in the Broadway musical Sugar Babies.
