Richard Bull
Biography
Richard Bull was an American actor who worked in film, on stage and in television, beginning his stage career at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago before spending years in New York and then settling in Los Angeles. He credited a two-line part in The Greatest Story Ever Told with opening doors, and the director George Stevens, impressed by his work, moved him toward playing an FBI agent in The Satan Bug (1965). His television career gained momentum when he was cast as the doctor aboard the Seaview in Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, appearing in 27 episodes of the series alongside Richard Basehart. In 1974 he took the role of Nels Oleson on Little House on the Prairie, the fair-minded family patriarch who had to keep the peace with his overbearing wife Harriet. He also appeared as a rancher in an episode of Bonanza and made more than 100 film and television appearances.
