Plot summary
Hiram Jaffe is a would-be playwright in New York. He supports himself by walking dogs and by writing pornography, which he also uses to get past a writer's block. He and Dolly, his wife, are leaving their present apartment for a larger one on the Upper West Side. Over three days the move brings one problem after another, and the man hired to shift their furniture will not take it. Hiram retreats into the fantasies of one of the books he has written, and those imaginings run alongside the move.
