Plot summary
Edith Alice Breezy Breezerman lost her parents in a car accident and, after finishing high school, left her aunt's home for California, where she sleeps on other people's couches. Frank Harmon is a wealthy real estate salesman whose marriage has ended and who takes little pleasure in anything. The morning Breezy climbs into his car and demands a ride, he has just seen off an overnight guest. She leaves her guitar behind, returns for it, and talks him into letting her shower. The next night police knock at his door; they picked up Breezy wandering and she told them Frank is her uncle. He plays along, feeds her, and drives her to the ocean.

- William Holden had not made a major film since The Wild Bunch in 1969, so he agreed to appear in Breezy for no salary, taking a percentage of the profits instead. The film made no profits, and the Screen Actors Guild told Clint Eastwood he would have to pay Holden the union minimum of $4,000.
- Casting Breezy was difficult because the part was a seventeen-year-old in the script and nude scenes were required; ten actresses were screen-tested, all opposite William Holden, which Eastwood called unusual. The role went to Kay Lenz because of her chemistry with Holden.
- Jo Heims wrote the part of the divorced realtor Frank Harmon for Clint Eastwood, but Eastwood felt he was too young to play it, so it went to William Holden, 12 years Eastwood's senior, and Eastwood directed instead.
- Although Kay Lenz had limited experience, Clint Eastwood gave her veto power over the nude scenes in Breezy; any she did not approve would not be included in the final cut.
- Breezy was shot so quickly and efficiently that it came in $1 million under budget and finished three days ahead of schedule.
