Peggy Lipton

Biography

Peggy Lipton was an American actress, model and singer who was born in New York City and started out as a teenage model there before signing a contract with Universal Pictures and making her television debut at 19 in the sitcom The John Forsythe Show. Guest parts in series such as Bewitched and The Alfred Hitchcock Hour followed, but her defining role came as the undercover hippie cop Julie Barnes in The Mod Squad, which brought four Emmy nominations and four Golden Globe nominations and a Golden Globe win for best actress in a television drama. After that show ended, she stepped back from full time acting for 15 years, returning in 1988 in the ABC movie Addicted to His Love and later drawing fresh attention as Norma Jennings in David Lynch's Twin Peaks, a part she reprised in the 2017 revival. She also recorded singles, among them Stoney End.
