Plot summary
Danny Lambert, a boy at a camp near a national park in Colorado, runs a short race with other campers and collapses from a severe asthma attack. Nurse Emily Evans tries to treat him at the camp infirmary, but he is terrified of needles and flees into the woods. Jerry Barker finds him there. Robertson Lambert, Danny's wealthy father, is frantic, and Chief Ranger Will Erickson tries to calm him. Barker demands $200,000 and warns Lambert to tell no one or he will kill his son.
