Plot summary
Joe, a middle-aged advertising executive, is driving home from the airport after a divorce when he offers a ride to Ginger, a much younger hitchhiker who carries a guitar and a case of poetry books. She is headed for Colorado Springs, so Joe says he is going to Denver, though his own house is in Santa Fe. That night no motel room can be found, and Joe takes her to a place he describes as a friend's empty home. Ginger is open about what she thinks, and Joe is drawn to her; she finds him ready, if awkward, to sing and run alongside her and to hear her talk about a better life.
