Plot summary
In 1979, Anne and Paul Sacchetti move into a house in rural New England, hoping the change will lift Anne from the deep depression that followed the death of their son Bobby. Anne soon insists that Bobby is present in the home. Their neighbor Cat McCabe warns them to leave, and Cat's husband Dave explains that the Dagmar family built the place as a funeral home in the 19th century. The Dagmars, he says, left the village after townspeople found out they sold corpses and buried empty caskets. Anne will not be deterred: she invites her friends May and Jacob Lewis, both spiritualists, to help her reach Bobby and to explain the strange things happening in the house.
