Marsha Hunt

Biography

Marsha Hunt was an American actress whose film work stretched from the 1930s into the 1970s. Born in Chicago and raised in New York City, she modeled and took stage-acting classes before Paramount signed her at age 17 in 1935. There she mostly played ingenues, including a lead opposite John Wayne in the Western Born to the West (1937). After Paramount dropped her in 1938, she appeared in B pictures and then supporting roles, such as Mary Bennet in Pride and Prejudice (1940) and Hope Thompson in Cheers for Miss Bishop (1941). At MGM from 1941 to 1947, she had starring parts in 21 films, among them Panama Hattie (1942), The Human Comedy (1943), None Shall Escape (1944), and The Valley of Decision (1945). Her later screen work included Johnny Got His Gun (1971). She earned a sidewalk star on Hollywood Boulevard in 1960 and a Golden Boot Award in 2002.
