Marion Martin
Biography
Marion Martin was an American actress who worked in film and on the stage. Born in Philadelphia, she appeared on Broadway in Lombardi Ltd. and Sweet Adeline before making her screen debut in She's My Lillie, I'm Her Willie, and her early roles were small, often as showgirls. She also earned some success as a singer, and by the end of the 1930s she was taking leading female parts in B pictures, among them James Whale's Sinners in Paradise (1938). She played the Marx Brothers' comic foil in The Big Store (1941), took a ghost role in Gildersleeve's Ghost, and was the showgirl Alice Angel in Lady of Burlesque (1943), a murder mystery with Barbara Stanwyck. Her credits also included Boom Town (1940) and The Big Street (1942). Roles grew smaller as the 1940s went on, and she made her last film in 1952.
