Plot summary

A gang in Chicago led by Slade robs a brokerage house. Lieutenant Bill Mason is given the case, and the crime reporter Ann Rogers covers the same story; the two are friendly enemies on it. Mason's search takes him to a hotel in New York, where Lieutenant Onslow works the case with him. Slade is scar-faced and on the loose, and Mason assumes the gang's chief is a man. A couple staying at the hotel is drawn in accidentally.
