Lando Buzzanca

Biography

Lando Buzzanca was an Italian actor who worked in stage, film, and television for 65 years. Born in Palermo, he left school at 16 for Rome to become an actor and supported himself with jobs such as waiter and furniture mover before a small part as a slave in Ben-Hur (1959). He made his debut in Divorce Italian Style (1961) and became known for playing southern Italian immigrants. In the 1960s he appeared in two James Tont films, parodies of James Bond, and after 33 films he broke through in 1970 with The Swinging Confessors. He then had great success in satirical commedia sexy all'italiana films, including Il merlo maschio (1971), which made him a major star. As the genre declined he focused on theater and television, and in 2007 he starred in I Viceré, earning a David di Donatello nomination and a Globo d'oro. From 2012 to 2014 he led the TV series il restauratore. He died in 2022.
