Plot summary
Napoleone, a small-time crook, is sprung from a Naples prison cell when the Baron, Agonia and the Captain tunnel into the wrong place. Flat broke despite the Baron's well-dressed appearance, the four take over the rundown used-car lot of Il Cajella on the outskirts of Rome and make him their protector. Napoleone's own attempts at crime go badly, and a purse he snatches at a shopping center brings him Marisa, who says she knows him and calls him Filiberto. To raise money, the gang offers passing Americans a private viewing of Michelangelo's Pietà, and the gang latches on to the idea of robbing a statue from the Vatican. Joe Ventura, a big-time American criminal, hears of the plan and wants the statue for himself.
