Julianna Margulies
Biography
Julianna Margulies is an American actress born in Spring Valley, New York, who first drew wide attention as nurse Carol Hathaway on ER, a role she played from 1994 to 2000 and revisited in 2009. That part brought her a Primetime Emmy Award, six Screen Actors Guild Awards, and four Golden Globe nominations. She later led The Good Wife as Alicia Florrick from 2009 to 2016, earning two more Emmys, a Golden Globe, and a Television Critics Association Award. Her television work includes The Mists of Avalon, The Sopranos, The Hot Zone, and The Morning Show. On film, she appeared in Dinosaur (2000), Evelyn (2002), Ghost Ship (2002), Snakes on a Plane (2006), City Island (2009), Stand Up Guys (2012), and The Upside (2019). She has also acted on stage, including Broadway, and published a picture book and a memoir.

Big break
Margulies had appeared in two episodes of NBC's Homicide: Life on the Street and was offered a bigger part there when ER came along. George Clooney, her pilot episode costar, phoned to say producers had mentioned her ER character might become a regular, so she should hold off.

Margulies was the only series regular cast member of ER to win a Primetime Emmy Award, taking Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 1994.
First role
Julianna Margulies played a prostitute in the 1991 action film Out for Justice, which starred Steven Seagal. That role was her feature film debut.
A role that slipped away
Margulies told tvguide.com in August 2006 that she nearly said yes to a four-episode ER arc with Noah Wyle that was shot in Hawaii during the 2005/06 season, but changed her mind at the last minute.
