John Gallaudet
Biography
John Gallaudet was an American actor who built a long career in film and television after starting out on the Broadway stage in the mid 1920s. Born in Philadelphia, he attended Williams College, then appeared in several New York productions before Columbia Pictures signed him in 1936 as a character player. Over three years at Columbia he made more than 30 features, often as newspapermen, radio broadcasters, or the hero's ally or adversary, and his Columbia work included the Bing Crosby musical Pennies from Heaven (1936). He later worked freelance for the major studios, and as television grew he became a familiar face in programs such as Dragnet and Bat Masterson, playing General William Tecumseh Sherman in one episode. He was a regular judge on Perry Mason, and he kept acting in films and television until 1974, including In Cold Blood (1967).
