Jill Bennett
Biography
Jill Bennett was a British actress, born in Penang, who trained at RADA from 1944 to 1946 and made her London stage debut in Now Barabbas in 1947 before joining the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre for its 1949 season. Her first film, The Long Dark Hall, followed in 1950, and she became a familiar face in British cinema through films such as Lust for Life (1956), The Nanny (1965), The Skull (1965) and The Criminal (1960). Later credits included The Charge of the Light Brigade (1968), Julius Caesar (1970) and Full Circle (1977), and she also appeared in Britannia Hospital (1982), the Bond film For Your Eyes Only (1981) and Lady Jane (1986), with her last screen role in The Sheltering Sky (1990). On stage she won Variety Club and Evening Standard awards for Time Present in 1968, and for television she appeared in Play for Today and Paradise Postponed, and co-wrote the sitcom Poor Little Rich Girls in 1984.
