Early training
Jeremy Brett studied under Elsie Fogerty at the Central School of Speech and Drama, which was then located at the Royal Albert Hall in London, and he graduated in 1954.
A first
In 1980, Brett took the role of Doctor Watson on stage in Los Angeles, with Charlton Heston playing Holmes in The Crucifer of Blood. This made him one of the few actors to have played both Holmes and Watson professionally.
Behind the award
In 1994, Jeremy Brett was awarded the Légion d'honneur for playing Sherlock Holmes. The honor was presented in Manchester, where the series was filmed, during an event marking a decade since it aired.
Getting ready for a role
Jeremy Brett did extensive research on the great detective and on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle himself, and he paid close attention to differences between the scripts he received and Conan Doyle's original stories.
