Plot summary
Tracey and Geoffrey Lawrence are expecting their first child when an intruder breaks into their home and assaults Tracey, who loses the baby. The attack leaves her unable to respond to her husband, and time does not ease the trauma. Geoffrey, an architect, moves the household, takes her on a holiday and shows her every consideration, but the wait for a second attack and her continued withdrawal wear on him, and his secretary Helen, who has told him she loves him, becomes a temptation. Inspector McInnes of Scotland Yard has not found the man responsible for the assault, and Tracey is still being stalked.
