Jennifer Jayne
Biography
Jennifer Jayne was an English film and television actress who came from a theatrical family in Yorkshire and chose her stage name to avoid being confused with the Hollywood actress Jennifer Jones. Her first screen work was a walk-on in Once a Jolly Swagman (1948), and she followed it with The Blue Lamp (1949). In 1951 she took a part in Black Widow, a mystery with Anthony Forwood. Television guest spots on Sword of Freedom (1957), The Adventures of Sir Lancelot (1956) and The Adventures of Robin Hood (1955) came before she played the hero's wife in The Adventures of William Tell (1958). Later she was the romantic lead in Raising the Wind (1961), a film set in a music academy, and in the musical comedy Band of Thieves (1962). She also starred opposite Norman Wisdom in On the Beat (1962). Writing as Jay Fairbank, she wrote scripts for Son of Dracula (1974) and Tales That Witness Madness (1973).
