Biography

Jane Wyatt was an American actress whose career stretched from the Broadway stage to Hollywood films and television. Born in 1910 in Campgaw, New Jersey, and raised in Manhattan, she studied at Barnard College and spent six months at the Berkshire Playhouse apprentice school before winning Broadway notice and a Universal Pictures contract. Her first screen appearance came in 1934 with One More River, and her best known film part was opposite Ronald Colman in Frank Capra's Lost Horizon (1937). Other credits included None but the Lonely Heart (1944), Gentleman's Agreement (1947), Boomerang! (1947), Pitfall (1948) and House by the River (1950). Three straight Emmy Awards came her way for playing Margaret Anderson on Father Knows Best, broadcast from 1954 to 1960, and she played Spock's mother, Amanda Grayson, on Star Trek and in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986). A Hollywood Walk of Fame star followed in 1960.
