Jameson Clark

Biography

Jameson Clark was a Scottish character actor known for playing Scottish types before he branched into other parts. Born in 1907, he made his first appearance in a major film in the British production Whisky Galore! (1949) as Constable Macrae, a role he repeated in the sequel Rockets Galore! His early work kept him in a Scottish typecast across thirteen films, among them The Maggie and X the Unknown (1956), until he was cast as a tugboat captain from England in The Key. He was McDougal in Ralph Thomas's remake of The 39 Steps (1959) and appeared with Peter Sellers and Robert Morley in The Battle of the Sexes (1960). Later credits included Greyfriars Bobby (1961) and, as a storekeeper, Ring of Bright Water (1969), his final film. After that he worked mostly in television, including Dr. Finlay's Casebook and Sutherland's Law, until he retired in 1980. He died in 1984.
