Plot summary
Robert MacPherson is the new owner of a Scottish tweed weaving firm that works in the traditional way. Angela Barrows, an efficiency expert from America, is in Edinburgh to look into export opportunities for her employer, and he asks for her help in bringing the company up to date. She visits the Hebrides, where old couples spin the wool on their crofts, and proposes replacing the seven hundred weavers with one large factory and changing the company to synthetic fibers. Mr. Martin, the accountant, and the staff hold to the old methods.
