Roddy McMillan

Roddy McMillan was a Scottish actor and playwright who was born in Glasgow in 1923 and died in 1979. He spent some time working in a glassworks before his stage career started in the mid 1940s at the Glasgow Unity Theatre. He then acted with the Glasgow Citizen's Company and, from the mid 1950s, at the Gateway Theatre in Edinburgh. He became best known for playing Para Handy in the BBC Scotland comedy series The Vital Spark. He also had the lead in The View from Daniel Pike, a private eye series, and appeared as Detective Inspector Choc Minty in Hazell, a late 1970s private eye series starring Nicholas Ball. His first play, All in Good Faith, was staged in 1954. His second, The Bevellers, opened at the Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh, found success at the Citizens Theatre in Glasgow in 1973, and was made as a BBC Play for Today. He received an OBE in 1978.
