Heather Thatcher
Biography
Heather Thatcher, born in London in 1896, was an English actress who worked in theater and film and died in 1987. By 1922 she was a dancer noted for an Egyptian harem dance. Her London stage debut came in 1916, with The Girl from Cirro's, staged at the Garrick Theatre, and she went on to The Boy at the Adelphi Theatre and to The Beauty Prize at the Winter Garden Theatre, where she sang and danced in 1923. Thy Name Is Woman at the Q Theatre in 1926 marked her move into serious acting, and later appeared in Lucky Break at the Strand Theatre and Canaries Sometimes Sing (1947). Hollywood drew her in 1931, and MGM signed her in 1932 for But the Flesh Is Weak, for which she was praised. She was Anna Dora in The Private Life of Don Juan (1934), and her last films, from 1955, were The Deep Blue Sea and Josephine and Men.

First role
In August 1926, Thatcher took a role in Thy Name Is Woman at the Q Theatre. That part signaled her move away from musical comedy toward serious acting.
A role that slipped away
During filming of Perfect Understanding in 1933, Thatcher's contract was canceled before the production was completed, and a replacement writer eliminated her character from the film.
Own stunts
Thatcher gained particular notice for how she performed an Egyptian harem dance. The exotic costumes she wore were designed in Russia.
