Plot summary
Don Juan has been in exile for two decades, and age has caught up with him. He comes back to Seville without letting the town know, and his friend Leporello accompanies him, keeping an eye on his health. Dolores, his wife, has not lived with him for five years and still loves him. She has bought up his debts, and she holds a threat over him: two years in jail if he will not come to her. He will not see her, because the life of a husband frightens him. By the following morning the whole of Seville has heard that he is back, and an admirer, Rodrigo, trails him everywhere, hoping to be like him. Don Juan makes ready to leave for France.
