Georgia Caine
Biography
Georgia Caine was an American actress whose 51-year career spanned Broadway and more than 80 films. Born in San Francisco to two Shakespearean actors, she toured the country with them as a child and quit school as a teenager to act in a Shakespearean repertory troupe. By 1899 she was starring on Broadway in the musical A Reign of Error, and she stayed there as a star or featured player, mainly in musicals, until the mid-1930s. As stage work faded she moved into talking pictures, making her first film, Good Intentions, in 1930. She was usually cast as mothers, aunts and older neighbors, though she played a streetwalker in Camille (1936). She was Barbara Stanwyck's mother in Remember the Night and a regular in Preston Sturges's stock company, also appearing in Christmas in July and Hail the Conquering Hero. Her last screen role came in 1950 in Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye.
