Early training
In 2002, Gabel left drama school to take a role on I Love Mummy, a children's fantasy sitcom. He played Pharaoh Prince Nuffratuti of Abu Simbel, who cannot reach the afterlife until his scroll of tasks is finished.
A role that slipped away
Gabel played Rakharo, Daenerys Targaryen's loyal bodyguard and a Dothraki "Bloodrider", in season 1 and the start of season 2 of Game of Thrones. Showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss said his character's journey was cut short because he quit to pursue more prominent projects.
Behind the camera
That same year, Gabel set up Roughened Verse Entertainment, his own production company, and headed to the United States to look for more roles.
