Ed Speleers
Biography
Ed Speleers is an English actor who began his career as the lead in the 2006 film adaptation of Eragon (2006). Born in Chichester, West Sussex, he had performed in school productions before that first professional role. He went on to appear in British television series such as Echo Beach and Downton Abbey, where he played Jimmy Kent, and later took the role of Stephen Bonnet in Outlander. His film work includes A Lonely Place to Die (2011), Plastic (2014), Howl (2015), Remainder (2015), Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016), Breathe (2017), The House That Jack Built (2018), and For Love or Money (2019). He appeared in Irish Wish (2024) and Midas Man (2024), and played Rhys Montrose in You and Jack Crusher in Star Trek: Picard, earning a Saturn Award nomination for the latter. He also made his stage debut in Rain Man in 2018.

On 12 March 2014, reports said Speleers was one of five actors up for a lead part in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but he was cut during casting.
Behind the camera
In 2017 Speleers worked as a producer on Wale, a short film by Barnaby Blackburn about contemporary racial prejudices in Britain. It earned a British Academy Film Award nomination in 2018 in the Short Film category.

Speleers made his stage premiere in 2018 in Rain Man, playing the lead role of Charlie Babbitt in a production directed by Jonathan O'Boyle that toured the United Kingdom.
