Don Novello
Biography
Don Novello is an American comic performer who works as an actor, writer, singer, director, and producer. Born in Ashtabula, Ohio, and raised in Lorain, he created his Father Guido Sarducci persona in 1973. He appeared as Sarducci on Saturday Night Live from 1978 to 1980 and again from 1985 to 1986, and he also wrote for the show. He produced episodes of SCTV in 1982 and wrote the Lazlo Toth letters, which were collected in books. On screen, he played Dominic Abbandando in The Godfather: Part III (1990), appeared in Casper (1995), and voiced Vinny Santorini in Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001) and Atlantis: Milo's Return (2003). He also appeared in Gilda Live (1980) and New York Stories (1989).

Big break
The Lazlo Letters drew the notice of Lorne Michaels, who produced Saturday Night Live. Novello then joined the show as a writer for its third season, which ran in 1977 and 1978.
Beyond film
In 1980, billed as Father Guido Sarducci, Novello handled lead vocals on a Warner Bros. Records single. He wrote one side with M. Davich, and the flip is Jimmy Webb's "MacArthur Park" sung in Italian, arranged much like Richard Harris's take.
Behind the camera
For a brief period in 1982, NBC installed Novello as a producer on the Toronto comedy show SCTV, where he produced nine episodes of its fourth season.
