Claude King

Biography

Claude King, born in Northampton in 1875, was an English-born performer who became known for character roles and also involved himself in union matters. He first acted on the stage in his home country, then moved to the United States, and in 1919 he appeared on Broadway in a production that starred Ethel Barrymore, titled Déclassée. His work later included American silent pictures, and he had a prominent part in Tod Browning's London After Midnight (1927), a lost silent film that featured Lon Chaney. King was one of the original members of the Screen Actors' Guild's first board of directors, serving in 1933. During World War I he served Great Britain in the Field Artillery, rose to the rank of Major, and survived the conflict. He died in 1941.
