Biography

Forrester Harvey was an Irish film actor who, from 1922 until his death in 1945, appeared in more than 115 films, though roughly a third of his roles went uncredited. Born in Cork, he was a burly, mustachioed performer who specialized in comic supporting parts, frequently cast as an innkeeper or a tavern owner. His best-known part was Beamish in the first two Tarzan pictures with Johnny Weissmuller, and he acted with Claude Rains in The Invisible Man and The Wolf Man. He worked twice for Alfred Hitchcock, in the British silent film The Ring (1927) and in Hitchcock's Hollywood debut Rebecca (1940), and he also appeared with Laurel and Hardy in A Chump at Oxford (1940). Some reference works wrongly credited him with the role of Little Maria's father in Frankenstein.
