Biography

Christopher George was an American actor who appeared in both television and film. Born in Royal Oak, Michigan, he began acting in New York City after college, studying with Wynn Handman and appearing Off-Broadway. A shaving-cream commercial won him a best actor award from the New York Film Festival. He starred as Sergeant Sam Troy on The Rat Patrol from 1966 to 1968 and was nominated for a Golden Globe in 1967 as Best TV Star. His film work included El Dorado (1966), Chisum (1970), The Train Robbers (1973), Midway (1976), Grizzly (1976), Day of the Animals (1977), City of the Living Dead (1980), Enter the Ninja (1981), Graduation Day (1981), Pieces (1982), and Mortuary (1982). He also had a lead in I Escaped from Devil's Island (1973) alongside Jim Brown. He died in 1983.

    George's big break arrived while he was a bouncer at a waterfront bar in New York, where producer Robert Rafelson persuaded him to start acting.

    George trained with drama coach Wynn Handman. He then won a sixteen-week role in the play Mr. Roberts alongside actor Hugh O'Brian, and later took parts in works by Shakespeare and Tennessee Williams.
