Buck Taylor
Biography
Buck Taylor is an American actor and artist. Born in Hollywood, he is the son of actor Dub Taylor. He graduated from North Hollywood High School, where he was a gymnast, and did not qualify for the 1960 Summer Olympics. After two years in the Navy, he began acting. His first major part came in a 1961 episode of Dick Powell's Zane Grey Theatre, and he later appeared in The Outer Limits and The Monroes. From 1967 to 1975 he played Newly O'Brien, a gunsmith who becomes a deputy, on Gunsmoke. He returned to the role in the 1987 TV movie Gunsmoke: Return to Dodge. In 1981 the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum put him in the Cowboy Hall of Fame and gave him a Trustee Award for Gunsmoke. He also played Emmett Walsh on Yellowstone. Taylor studied at the Chouinard Art Institute and has sold watercolor and acrylic paintings since 1993.

First role
Buck Taylor played Trooper Shattuck in the Dick Powell's Zane Grey Theatre episode called "Image of a Drawn Sword," which aired in 1961. It was his first important acting role.
A change of course
Taylor studied at the Chouinard Art Institute. Since 1993 he has sold his watercolor and acrylic paintings, which show cowboys, Native Americans, and horses.
Behind the award
The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum named Taylor to its Cowboy Hall of Fame in 1981. That same year, the museum also honored him with the Trustee Award for his work on Gunsmoke.
Own stunts
At North Hollywood High School, Buck Taylor developed into a skilled gymnast. Guinn "Big Boy" Williams, an actor, backed his trip to the U.S. Olympic Trials, though Taylor did not make the 1960 Summer Olympics.
