Betty White
Biography
Betty White was an American actress and comedian whose radio and television career spanned almost seven decades. Born in Oak Park, Illinois, she worked in radio before co-hosting the live variety show Hollywood on Television. She produced and starred in the sitcom Life with Elizabeth, making her a pioneering female sitcom producer. She was a familiar panelist on game shows such as Password and Match Game, and in 1983 she was the first female winner in the Daytime Emmy category for game show hosting, for Just Men! Her signature roles were Sue Ann Nivens on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Rose Nylund on The Golden Girls, and Elka Ostrovsky on Hot in Cleveland. She made her film debut in Advise & Consent (1962) and later appeared in Lake Placid (1999), Bringing Down the House (2003), and The Proposal (2009). She hosted Saturday Night Live, won a Primetime Emmy for guest actress in a comedy, and died in 2021.

NBC wanted White to be an anchor on Today, but she said no since moving permanently to New York City, where the show is made, was not something she wanted. Barbara Walters got the job instead.

At age 88, Betty White hosted Saturday Night Live on May 8, 2010, making her the oldest person to host the show. Miskel Spillman, who won SNL's "Anybody Can Host" contest, was 80 when she hosted in 1977.
