Plot summary
George Wilson's birthday begins with Dennis Mitchell at the door, bearing a collection of creatures as gifts: among them frogs, lizards, snakes and a baby alligator. The visit ends with George riding Dennis' red wagon down a flight of stairs and Martha's cake landing on his face. Not long afterward, Dennis' grandfather turns up and declares that he will live at the Mitchell house, and the boy would rather be with him than next door. Unhappy about growing older, George listens to the Professor and his assistant Sylvester, a pair of swindlers pitching him a rare root, and later a machine, that they claim can make a man younger.
