Bernadene Hayes
Biography
Bernadene Hayes was an American actress who worked in film, television, radio and the stage, and who also sang. Born in Chicago, she started performing in amateur productions as a child, and her first professional singing job came at 18 at a theater in St. Louis, which led to a vaudeville tour and staff positions at radio stations in St. Louis, Detroit and Chicago. She sang on CBS broadcasts and acted in its programs, and in 1930 was named America's most beautiful radio performer. She then moved to Los Angeles, sang with bands and broke into films as an extra, appearing in This Gun for Hire (1942), Great Guy (1936) and Dick Tracy's Dilemma (1947). On Broadway she appeared in several plays, and she acted in summer stock and at the Pasadena Playhouse. She died in 1987.
