Plot summary
Billie Nash, a drifter, steps off a bus in a new town and takes a job as a waitress in a bar. The bar's owner, Matt Bannister, is married to Dora, who inherited the place from her alcoholic father and drinks heavily herself. Billie sets her sights on Matt, and she talks him into a scheme to sell the bar behind Dora's back and head to Mexico with her. Billie is staying at a rooming house, where a fellow boarder, Charlie Borg, has designs on her.
