Anton Rodgers

Anton Rodgers was an English actor who also directed occasionally, working across stage, film, television dramas and sitcoms. Born in London in 1933, he trained at the Italia Conti Academy and LAMDA and first appeared on stage at 14, making his West End debut in 1947 in Carmen at the Royal Opera House. He became best known for long-running television roles such as William Fields in Fresh Fields and its sequel French Fields, and Alec Callender in May to December from 1989 to 1994. His films included Scrooge (1970), The Man Who Haunted Himself (1970), Murder with Mirrors (1985), The Fourth Protocol (1987), Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988), C. S. Lewis: Beyond Narnia (2005) and Longford (2006). He narrated the animated children's series Old Bear Stories, and his stage work ranged from Restoration comedy to Ibsen, Shaw and Wilde. He died in 2007.
