Plot summary
Divorced and recently finished with her memoirs, Amantine-Lucile-Aurore Dupin lives in Paris under the name George Sand. She writes sensational romance novels, wears men's clothing, and tires quickly of the lovers she takes. Her attention now falls on Frédéric Chopin, a frail, sensitive pianist whose music she admired before they met. Franz Liszt's mistress, Marie d'Agoult, advises Sand that a shy man will give way to a stronger will. The Duchess d'Antan, hoping to build a stylish salon in the provinces, fills her country house with Parisian artists, Chopin among them. Sand and her children arrive uninvited, not knowing that two of her former lovers, Alfred de Musset and Félicien Mallefille, are guests as well.
