Aksel Hennie
Biography
Norwegian actor, director, and screenwriter Aksel Hennie was born in Oslo and, after four attempts, gained admission to the Norwegian National Academy of Theatre, graduating in 2001. He performed at Teatret Vårt in Molde and Oslo Nye Teater, appearing in Hamlet, and Dagbladet named him Theatre Talent of the Year in 2001. His film work began with Jonny Vang in 2003, which brought him an Amanda Award for best actor. He wrote, directed, and acted in Uno (2004), winning an Amanda for best direction, and played the Norwegian war hero in Max Manus (2008). European Film Promotion named him one of its Shooting Stars in 2004. He took roles in Hercules (2014) and The Martian (2015), and in 2013 led Pioneer as a North Sea diver in a docudrama.

Early training
Hennie applied four times before the Norwegian National Academy of Theatre accepted him, and he graduated in 2001. He has acted at Teatret Vårt in Molde and at Oslo Nye Teater.
First role
Hennie made his film debut starring in Jonny Vang in 2003, though director Jens Lien first thought he was too young for the part and Hennie had to convince him otherwise.
Getting ready for a role
For Uno, which he also directed and wrote, Hennie and co-star Nicolai Cleve Broch trained hard for six months to convincingly play bodybuilders.
