Plot summary

Norway is at the start of its oil boom in the early 1980s. Large deposits of oil and gas have been found in the North Sea, and the authorities intend to bring the oil ashore in a pipeline laid at depths of 500 meters. Petter is a commercial offshore diver, and he and his brother Knut take important parts in laying the field's first petroleum pipe. Norwegian and American teams join in diving deeper than anyone has before to prepare a gas pipeline, and Petter is set on diving to the bottom of the Norwegian Sea.
