Plot summary
In the final months of 1944, during the Lapland War, the former Finnish Army commando Aatami Korpi searches for gold in the wilderness with his horse and his dog. He uncovers a rich deposit, gathers a large quantity of nuggets, and travels toward Rovaniemi. Along the road he encounters a large Waffen-SS platoon under Obersturmführer Bruno Helldorf, which is destroying villages as it retreats toward Norway and holds several Finnish women captive. Helldorf shows little interest in Aatami and lets him go on. A second unit of SS soldiers then discovers the gold in his saddlebags and decides to rob and kill him.
