Plot summary
Two families of Verona, the Montagues and the Capulets, have held a long-standing grudge. Their hostility has recently spilled into street fights between members of the rival households. One night, Romeo, a Montague, attends a Capulet party without an invitation. He goes there hoping to see Rosaline, a young woman he is infatuated with. At the party he notices Juliet, whose father heads the Capulet household, and his thoughts of Rosaline fade. Juliet is just as taken with Romeo. Her father, however, has already arranged other plans for her.
