Plot summary
Beatrix Potter's writing career is winding down. Her publisher keeps asking for a new draft, her eyesight is failing, and Christmas brings trespassing fans and carol singers to her Cumbrian farm. Her Herdwick sheep and her disobedient animals are her comfort. In Wales, six-year-old Roald Dahl has lost his older sister and then his father. The Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddle-Duck tales distract him from the funeral and from talk of boarding school. His mother Sofie urges him to follow his dreams and visit the author he admires, and the two set off together.
