Plot summary
Pete Morgan manages the roadhouse for his friend Jefferson "Jefty" Robbins, who took it over from his father. Jefty hires Lily Stevens, a singer from Chicago, and is drawn to her, while Pete assumes she is one more girl he will have to send away. Pete offers Lily money and a train ticket, but she refuses the offer and performs at the club, playing her own piano accompaniment. Jefty asks Pete to teach Lily to bowl, and she shows more interest in Pete than in the sport. Susie Smith, the cashier, is fond of Pete and jealous of Lily. Jefty tells Lily that she is different from any other girl he has known before leaving on a hunting trip.
