Plot summary
Charles Coleman Sr. is a judge who has built his life around law and justice. His wife Marilyn is a police officer, and their son CJ is preparing to start at the police academy. On the morning of CJ's first day there, a traffic encounter with officer Rory turns hostile; Rory believes CJ is reaching for a weapon and fires, and Von fires too, killing CJ. The officers find that CJ was unarmed. Rory plants a handgun in the vehicle and constructs a story that CJ threatened them, and Von, disturbed, supports it. The media soon describes CJ as a dangerous criminal. Marilyn loses faith in her department, while Charles keeps trying to work through the legal system, and at the official inquiry both officers lie under oath.
