Plot summary
Henry Turner is a wealthy Manhattan trial lawyer, callous and consumed by his work, with little time for his wife Sarah and their preteen daughter Rachel. One night he goes out to a convenience store for cigarettes and interrupts a robbery, taking a bullet to the head. He survives with brain damage and retrograde amnesia, able to neither move nor speak. In a nursing facility, a physical therapist named Bradley helps him regain movement and speech, while the cost of his care weighs on the family. He comes home nearly childlike, remembering nothing of his personal life or of the wife and daughter who take him in.
