Rebecca Miller

Rebecca Miller is an American filmmaker, novelist and director who began her career in front of the camera. Born in Roxbury, Connecticut, and raised among artists, she made her stage debut in 1988 in Peter Brook's production of The Cherry Orchard, then took supporting parts in films such as Regarding Henry (1991), Consenting Adults (1992) and Wind (1992). She wrote and directed the short Florence in 1991, and her first feature, Angela, followed in 1995; it brought her the Sundance Filmmaker Trophy and a Gotham Award for breakthrough directing. Personal Velocity: Three Portraits (2002) won the Sundance Grand Jury Prize, and she went on to write and direct The Ballad of Jack and Rose, The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, Maggie's Plan and She Came to Me, along with the screenplay for Proof. She also wrote novels and won an Emmy for the documentary series Mr. Scorsese.
