Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Quest for Fire (1981)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Michael D. Moore, the associate producer in charge of action and animal scenes, spent six months training circus elephants to behave like mammoths. Strict Icelandic laws on transporting four-legged animals delayed their arrival, then a volcano erupted near the ranch where they would have stayed; had they been there, the elephants would have been killed.
- Novelist Anthony Burgess created the film's special language forms and anthropologist Desmond Morris devised the patterns of movement and gesture. The more advanced language of the Ivaka was largely based on Cree and Inuit, which amused speakers of those languages because the words have little to do with the plot.
- After Quest for Fire became a surprise box office hit, other productions copied its documentary-style approach to prehistory, including Lucio Fulci's Conquest (1983) and Umberto Lenzi's Ironmaster (1983), though those Italian B-movies had a strong fantasy orientation.
