Plot summary
Camille Claudel is a French sculptor in the 1880s. Her father, a wealthy businessman, encourages her art and her secular subjects, while her devoutly Catholic mother dislikes her work and her choices. Her enthusiasm impresses Auguste Rodin, an already famous sculptor, who hires her as his assistant. She soon sculpts for herself as well as for him, and becomes his mistress. As her career grows, she works to overcome the prejudices that greet women artists, and she wants to be known for her own sculpture rather than to remain in his shadow.
